DeKalb Clinic has offered nuclear imaging services since Spring 2003 at our Main Clinic in DeKalb. The service is provided by Northern Illinois Imaging, LLC, a joint venture of DeKalb Clinic and an independent high quality diagnostic imaging service in northern Illinois. Nuclear Imaging is a specialty diagnostic procedure in which a small amount of an inert radioactive isotope is injected into the patient. The nuclear camera then detects the distribution of the isotope. Depending on the type of study, the nuclear camera images are interpreted by one of DeKalb Clinic’s radiologists led by
Dr. Patel, board certified cardiologist.
Nuclear imaging tests are often performed to identify cancers, such as, lung and bone scans, which determine the cause of internal bleeding, and evaluate the functioning of internal organs such as the heart, thyroid gland and liver or spleen among other studies.
Nuclear imaging tests must be ordered by a physician and are scheduled through DeKalb Clinic Diagnostic Imaging Department at (815) 758-8671, Ext 5060.
