Living with diabetes isn’t easy. For one thing, there is a lot to do, like watching what you eat and checking your blood sugar. There are also many things to worry about. After all, diabetes can cause heart attacks, kidney disease, circulatory disorders and other problems if it is not controlled.
That’s where the DeKalb Clinic’s Certified Diabetes Education Center can help. Research shows that participation in a diabetes education program promotes better diabetes control and contributes to lowering health care costs. Our team of physician specialists, registered dietician (nutritionist) and certified diabetes educator help you manage your diabetes and reach your blood sugar target levels for a healthier life. All physicians at DeKalb Clinic follow diabetes treatment guidelines based on those published by the American Diabetes Association that includes counseling by the Clinic’s Registered Dietician and Diabetic Nurse Educator, annual eye and foot examinations, and routine monitoring of HbA1c (blood sugar) levels, lipid profiles and micro-albumin levels.
DeKalb Clinic also utilizes sophisticated systems software to confidentially monitor each patient participating in its diabetes management program. The tracking software assists your health care professionals to set appropriate goals, develop appropriate treatment and education plans and measure your progress.
Since 2004, DeKalb Clinic is a partner of the Diabetes Control Network, a free confidential service that provides educational materials, diabetes "scorecards" and gifts for participation delivered to your home through the mail or by e-mail. All DeKalb Clinic diabetes patients are qualified to enroll.
